Welcome to the Help:Best Practices: Community Portal guide.

Summary

A community portal is your ultimate reference for editors and readers. Since not all editors or readers want to join or follow a wiki's social media, it can be hard to communicate knowledge to all readers and editors; this is where a community portal may help.

Helpful links

  • Project:Community portal (you can type Project:Community portal into your URL bar, but this will redirect you to a different location on each wiki)

Usage

While a community portal might seem odd to add on paper, it's a great reference to have. They may state the wiki.gg staff, active admins on the wiki you're visiting and any active translators editing the wiki, as well as offering other functionality.

Remember to keep your community portal easy to understand and easy for new visitors to understand the current projects the wiki is undertaking.

Sidebar

After creating the community portal page, please head to your MediaWiki:Sidebar and add in ** portal-url|portal in the navigation tab. Upon adding this in, the community portal link will now appear in your sidebar for users to click on.
