TULIPS/October 3rd, 2024
< TULIPS
Welcome to our thirteenth TULIPS (Thursday Updates & Logs Improving Platform Software)! You can read the previous one if you haven't yet.
These posts will be made whenever we have enough development updates to make a post, usually on Thursdays.
Live now
- Last week we've updated our homepage at https://www.wiki.gg/! We wanted to make sure people know that we welcome non-gaming wikis and also provide some additional useful links in the header.
- We've adjusted the default appearance of the cookie notice. It now supports light and dark themes out of the box and should stay legible regardless of local CSS customisations.
- We're working on a new, responsive navbox design. If this sounds interesting to you, please copy to your wiki and REPLACE your existing navbox code:
{{Navbox}}m
Gadget-navbox.css
(but it's recommended to copy this to your MediaWiki:common.css , replacing your current navbox CSS)
- This update should work out of the box without any further changes needed from you! If you notice any problems please let us know.
- We've added a global filter that will warn users when they try to move (rename) the wiki's logo or favicon.
Site-logo.png
andSite-favicon.ico
are the only supported names for these two files. - We're also actively working on streamlining onboarding. Last week we enabled the fresh-but-still-experimental Special:GuidedSetup page, also known as the Guided Publication Setup (GPS) project, on all work-in-progress wikis. This page will house a list of tasks that must or should be completed before a wiki goes publicly readable and editable, as well as a FAQ section.
- These tasks will be tuned over the next few weeks. There are also still some minor visual bugs.
- GPS is only enabled during onboarding and will automatically deactivate the moment the wiki goes public.
- Our default Extension:TemplateStyles configuration has been updated to allow loading images by URL from the local wiki and the Commons Wiki.
Policy changes
We've amended the customization policy to include cookie notices in the list of elements you can't style. If your wiki is currently styling cookie notices, please revert these or request staff permission for the changes to be approved.
New documentation
- We've updated our CSS article quite a bit, with a lot more help for people using the default loadout wiki (DLW) variables.
Known issues
- Extension:InputBox doesn't permit empty fields when editing a page with real-time previews.
