Support wiki
This is the wiki.gg support wiki! It's a different site from your content wiki!
TULIPS/2025-06-26
Welcome to our 35th TULIPS (Thursday Updates & Logs Improving Platform Software)! You can read the previous one if you haven't yet.
These posts will be made whenever we have enough development updates to make a post, usually on Thursdays. Happy TULIPS anniversary! One year of bouquets!
Upcoming, volunteer wikis needed
We will be increasing the max file size allowed for some select file types (video, audio). If your wiki would benefit from having a larger file size for these types so that you don't have to embed externally-hosted videos of animations, movesets, score tracks, etc, and can instead upload them directly to your wiki, let us know by writing on our talk page! Doing so will put you at the top of our list of wikis to roll this change out to, although eventually we will be applying these filesize-related improvements to all wikis on our platform.
In case anyone's wondering why we can't just turn this on for everyone at once, there are some infrastructure changes that have to be applied before we can flip the switch on a wiki, and those changes will take a couple months to fully roll out to the entire platform.
Work in progress
Search improvements
We are piloting some changes to search that will improve the way secondary content namespace results are handled and also show redirect targets if a result is being auto-completed via a redirect. We are not seeking additional wikis to pilot this change on currently, but you can test it out on Eldenpedia (particularly searching for Nightreign pages), ARK Wiki (particularly searching for modded content), Sea of Thieves Wiki, or Minecraft: Discontinued Features Wiki if you want to see how it'll look and give us feedback. We hope to make this change live on all wikis at some point during July!
Since the initial deploy of search improvements, we've also made the following changes:
- PortableInfobox will attempt to select your first image to use as the thumbnail, since it's hard to
#setmainimage
in PI. (DRUID already has a#setmainimage
tag.) - Added different default thumbnails for some namespaces
uploadMultipleFiles gadget
The uploadMultipleFiles gadget is on the operating table right now. It now pauses if you hit the ratelimit and displays a countdown before resuming, instead of just failing. Failed uploads now also display a reason for failure, which should help diagnose other failures. These changes are not global and you'll need to update your wiki's copy from DLW or the Support Wiki to get them. More changes are planned for the coming weeks.
Live now
New features
- Important: To prevent account loss, creating new application passwords now requires the account to have a confirmed email.
- Interlanguage links are now automatically added to some special pages when there are multiple language wikis for a topic.
Improvements
- Updated video embed size calculations to make a better use of available space inside galleries.
- "Redirected from" messages are no longer included in print view.
- Themes dropdown menu now splits themes into 'light' and 'dark' sections.
- Switching to a different theme now affects other open tabs on desktop computers.
- The checkered background behind transparent images on file pages and in MultimediaViewer now adapts to the current theme instead of being always gray. This change was done in response to SATELLITE feedback!
- On wikis piloting our new search improvements, search result thumbnails have been enabled. Our search improvements beta is happening now (instead of later this year) in response to SATELLITE feedback!
Bugfixes
- Resolved a script error during Special:EditRecovery indicator initialization which could happen in some older browsers.
- Video embeds no longer blow out vertically with empty space.
- On wikis with ArrayFunctions enabled, the "Pages with ArrayFunctions errors" category is now listed at Special:TrackingCategories.
- For local videos, the
gif
parameter is now supported again. - Fixed a minor content shift due to ad placeholders.
ParserPower
- ParserPower has been updated to version 1.7.0. See the ParserPower version history for patch notes.
LIBRARIAN (Cargo)
- The "Page" column, visible when viewing a specific table at Special:CargoTables, now has a link to view all of the page's database records, in addition to the existing edit link.
- Boolean parameters for the
table
format now also recognizeon
,true
and non-zero integers like1
. They, however, continue to be non-localizable (sorry). - Fixed a number of issues which could result in text showing in incorrect languages.
- Fixed an issue which could result in the use of incorrect comma separators for a given language.
Pagevalues / database data
?action=pagevalues
is nowSpecial:DatabaseData
- Any action=pagevalues links (e.g. bookmarks, history autocomplete) will redirect you
- The sidebar will now say "Database data" instead of "Cargo data"
- The ID of the sidebar entry is still
t-cargopagevalueslink
so that we don't break any CSS, but we may update this at a later time. If we do rename it in the future (likely with MW 1.45), we'll globally bot-edit all CSS stylesheets to refer to the new ID instead.
- The ID of the sidebar entry is still
Miscellaneous
- The OpenGraphMeta extension has been replaced with our new PageDescriptions extension.
#setmainimage
function remains available and will not be removed.
- Abuse filter accounts now have global sysop rights so that we don't pollute Special:ListUsers/sysop and also to hopefully be clearer about why the account exists if people check the profile when it's linked from recent changes.
Discord changes
We now have a server tag in our Discord server! To enable it, scroll to the bottom of the profile edit screen and under Server Tag, choose the wiki.gg server. In Default chat message display, the tag will display as a lightning bolt with the tag EDIT. In compact message display, it'll just be a lightning bolt, and clicking it will show some information about the wiki.gg server.
If you have spare boosts we would appreciate them, to make sure we can keep our server tag enabled!
Known issues
- EmbedVideo embeds may display in an incorrect language.
- The edit recovery indicator may sometimes incorrectly appear right after saving an edit despite no unsaved drafts existing.
- Due to a DOM change in Google search results, the wiki.gg redirect extension may not be redirecting your search results (though URLs should still get redirected). We will patch this, but we also recommend installing Indie Wiki Buddy (not affiliated with us or with indie.io in any way) in the meantime; that extension will redirect independent wikis as well as most wiki.gg forks.
WE DID THIS
Congratulations to User:Betta7776 for being added to the credits of a game whose wiki he worked on! That's awesome!
