TULIPS/2025-01-30
Welcome to our 21st TULIPS (Thursday Updates & Logs Improving Platform Software)! You can read the previous one if you haven't yet.
These posts will be made whenever we have enough development updates to make a post, usually on Thursdays. Because we are starting to work on the MediaWiki 1.43 update, TULIPS will be released less frequently until the update is rolled out.
Live now
We have preliminary patch notes for the MediaWiki 1.43 update! Please keep in mind, this list is still a work in progress, and there will be additional changes that are not yet mentioned there. Please check that page's history if you don't want to read through the whole thing again and again!
ParserPower
- As previously warned, a small breaking change was made to
{{#argmap:
, and the default delimiter is now,
which matches the functionality of{{#arraymaptemplate
.
IMProved Main Page
- The
id
parameter in{{main page box}}
has been removed without any loss of functionality. This also means Template:Main page box/check is no longer needed and can be deleted if your wiki upgrades to the most recent IMP version. These changes have been made on DLW. - Previously, if boxes were left out of some layouts (desktop, tablet, mobile), everything would break when users viewed that layout. Now if you leave a box out, it will simply not appear on that layout. There will be a warning in edit preview in case this was an accident.
ARTIFICER
We have a new version of ARTIFICER live in our onboarding server! Many thanks to everyone who volunteered was forced to test the new version! Most of these notes apply only if you are currently in onboarding.
- If you run
/invite
, the URL you receive may be different from your previous URL, and will now be a wiki.gg/d/ link, rather than a discord.gg/ link. This is because we're now using ✨magic✨ to do invites. In the future, we hope to also use our invite system to link your wiki account to your Discord account automatically so that we can automate permissions granting to new admins (however as it stands this is a bit complicated especially given account reclaim). - If you've joined using our new wiki.gg/d/ invite links and authorized with ARTIFICER then you can now run the
/artificer
command! From anywhere! Private DMs and any server channel (Where you have the "Use Application Commands" permission). Per our guidelines, please limit this use to private channels and DMs.- If you joined prior to this rollout, run
/invite
in your onboarding channel, click the buttons, and you'll have access to/artificer
! You do NOT need to leave the server to make this work.
- If you joined prior to this rollout, run
- With our new ✨magic✨ you can now accept any invites through our new system and participate in multiple onboarding channels at one time without leaving the old channel/thread!
- Particularly, this will allow TITANs to help out onboarding wikis more easily.
- There are several other nice improvements that are only relevant for wiki.gg staff, but hopefully you'll start to see our turnaround time on new wiki applications go down!
