Renaming a page

From Support Wiki
(Redirected from Moving a page)
Jump to navigation Jump to search

On wiki.gg, MediaWiki's action for moving a page is called "Renaming." This difference is because one of the most frequently asked questions we got was "How do I rename a page?" and it was asked by people who had already checked the dropdown, seen the action for "Move," and not known what it was. MediaWiki's choice is based on Linux nomenclature, where you mv a file to rename it, but in Windows and Mac the operating system talks about "renaming." So, we will use "rename" too.

You can see more about what a page rename does at mediawiki.org's help page. Keep in mind that every time it says "move" there, on wiki.gg you will see "rename."

Hotkey

The hotkey for renaming has not been changed, and you can still use Alt+Shift+M on Windows or Ctrl+Option+M on MacOS. See Keyboard shortcuts on mediawiki.org for more information.
